The Impressive TimesNew Delhi, March 23, 2024- C-DOT, the Centre for Development of Telematics, an esteemed Telecom R&D center under the Department of Telecommunications, Ministry of Communications, Government of India, proudly announces the qualification of its project “Mobile-enabled Disaster Resilience through Cell Broadcast Emergency Alerting” for the prestigious World Summit on Information Society (WSIS) Prizes 2024. This recognition comes within the category of “Benefits in all aspects of life – E-environment,” amidst a pool of over 1000 global entries for the WSIS Prize.
The project stands out as an indigenous, state-of-the-art solution designed to deliver critical life-saving emergency information instantly via mobile phones through cellular telecom networks in broadcast mode. It ensures prompt message delivery with distinctive tones and pop-up notifications, effectively capturing user attention during critical situations in real-time. Beyond disaster and emergency alerts, this solution caters to various other sectors including government directives, law enforcement, defense strategies, industrial needs, and advertisement.
The system’s efficacy in disseminating timely alerts proves instrumental in saving lives during disasters such as earthquakes, lightning, tsunamis, and other urgent situations where immediate attention is paramount.
The submission process for WSIS-related projects commenced from October 10, 2023, to February 15, 2024. Following this, the Nomination Phase extended from February 16 to March 10, 2024, during which C-DOT’s project secured qualification for the next round among the myriad of commendable submissions.
Alongside C-DOT’s initiative, numerous other products and solutions have also qualified in the aforementioned category. The project with the highest number of votes will proceed to the subsequent round after the voting process.
Given the potential of this solution in saving lives, C-DOT urges support through casting votes to ensure the advancement of this indigenous “Make in India” solution to the next stage of the competition. The voting link remains accessible until March 31, 2024.
