PM Modi Launches Dahod Locomotive Plant, Flags Off First Electric Engine

Gujarat, 26 May: Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated a state-of-the-art Locomotive Manufacturing Plant of the Indian Railways in Dahod, Gujarat, on Monday, marking a major step forward in strengthening India’s railway infrastructure and boosting freight capacity. The event also witnessed the flagging off of the first electric locomotive produced at the plant, a symbol of India’s push towards modern, energy-efficient rail transport.

According to an official statement from the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO), this new facility will manufacture powerful 9,000 horsepower electric locomotives designed for both domestic use and export markets. These locomotives feature advanced regenerative braking systems aimed at reducing energy consumption and enhancing environmental sustainability. The new plant is expected to significantly increase the freight loading capacity of Indian Railways, thereby supporting economic growth and the efficient movement of goods across the country.

Following the inauguration, PM Modi laid the foundation stone and inaugurated multiple development projects in Dahod worth over ₹24,000 crore. These include key rail infrastructure projects and several initiatives by the Government of Gujarat. The Prime Minister also flagged off the Vande Bharat Express service between Veraval and Ahmedabad, along with an express train connecting Valsad and Dahod, boosting connectivity in the region.

On this two-day visit to Gujarat, which began on May 26, PM Modi earlier held a vibrant roadshow in Vadodara. Sharing his joy on social media, he thanked the people of Vadodara for their warm welcome, calling the roadshow “extremely delightful” and expressing gratitude for their blessings.

The roadshow was marked by enthusiastic crowds waving Indian flags and chanting patriotic slogans. Flowers were showered on the Prime Minister as he greeted supporters along the route. Notably, family members of Indian Army Officer Colonel Sofiya Qureshi, who was involved in media briefings during Operation Sindoor, also participated in the celebrations, showering flower petals on the PM.

This visit underscores the government’s continued focus on infrastructure development, enhancing connectivity, and fostering national pride while moving towards a sustainable and modernized railway network.
