Andhra Pradesh : Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu has announced a comprehensive relief package to provide financial aid and rehabilitation support to families affected by the severe floods in Vijayawada. This unprecedented flood event has caused widespread damage across the city, and the state government has moved swiftly to mitigate the hardships faced by residents.
During a press conference on Tuesday, the Chief Minister outlined the details of the relief efforts, emphasizing the government’s commitment to restoring normalcy and supporting the recovery of flood-affected communities. Naidu confirmed that all 32 wards across 179 secretariats in Vijayawada would be covered under the relief package, ensuring that no affected household is left out.
For families residing on the ground floors of flood-impacted areas, the government will provide financial assistance of ₹25,000 per household to compensate for damages to property and household items. Those living on the first and second floors will also receive support, with ₹10,000 allotted to each household, recognizing that many multi-level residences were also affected by the floods. Residents in other affected areas will similarly be eligible for financial aid of ₹10,000, ensuring a broad and inclusive response to the disaster.
The Chief Minister extended the relief efforts to support small businesses hit by the floods. Small shop owners, including grocery and tea stall vendors, who play a critical role in the local economy, will receive ₹25,000 each to help them recover from losses incurred during the flooding. Naidu highlighted that the focus is on ensuring that the livelihoods of these small business owners are restored as quickly as possible.
A significant part of the relief package also focuses on supporting Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs), which are vital to the region’s economic stability. The Chief Minister announced that MSMEs with a turnover of less than ₹40 lakh would be exempt from filing Goods and Services Tax (GST) as part of the relief measures. In addition, they will be granted ₹50,000 to aid in their recovery. MSMEs with turnovers between ₹40 lakh and ₹1.5 crore will receive ₹1 lakh, while those with turnovers exceeding ₹1.5 crore will be given ₹1.5 lakh to help them restart their operations and cope with the losses caused by the floods.
Naidu also addressed concerns about vehicle insurance claims, assuring residents that assistance would be provided to streamline the process for those whose vehicles were damaged during the floods.
