Anjum Chopra Backs Royal Challengers Bengaluru to Defend IPL Title with Strong Balanced Squad

Bengaluru, April 10, 2026: Former India women’s cricket captain Anjum Chopra has expressed strong confidence that Royal Challengers Bengaluru have the ability to defend their Indian Premier League title in the upcoming season. She said the team has developed into a well-balanced unit capable of handling pressure in high-intensity matches and big tournament situations.

Chopra highlighted that RCB’s recent performances reflect improved consistency across departments, which has played a key role in their rise as a dominant side. She added that the presence of experienced international players, combined with a stronger domestic core, has given the franchise much-needed depth and flexibility in team selection.

She further noted that the team management has worked on strengthening both batting and bowling units, especially focusing on finishing ability and death-over execution. According to her, the leadership group has also shown greater maturity in handling crucial match situations, which is vital for defending a title in a competitive league like the IPL.

The former cricketer also pointed out that RCB’s fielding standards have improved significantly, which could prove decisive in close matches throughout the season. She said that while defending a championship is always challenging due to increased expectations and opposition strategies, RCB appear better prepared than in previous seasons.

Chopra concluded that if the team maintains discipline, consistency, and smart execution under pressure, they have a realistic chance of retaining their crown, adding that RCB remain one of the strongest contenders for the IPL title this year.
