BSNL Posts Profit After 18 Years as Scindia Reviews Telecom PSUs’ Financial Performance

Union Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia lauds BSNL’s turnaround; urges BSNL, TCIL, and ITI to focus on innovation, service excellence, and sustainability.

New Delhi, September 4, 2025:Union Minister for Communications and Development of North Eastern Region, Jyotiraditya M. Scindia, today chaired the quarterly financial review meeting of Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL), Telecommunications Consultants India Limited (TCIL), and ITI Limited. The session focused on profit performance, turnover growth, and future expansion strategies of the three major telecom Public Sector Undertakings (PSUs).

One of the biggest highlights of the review was the remarkable financial recovery of BSNL, which has reported profits for two consecutive quarters after nearly 18 years. BSNL recorded a profit of ₹262 crore in Q3 and ₹280 crore in Q4 of FY 2024-25, compared to a loss of ₹849 crore in Q4 of the previous fiscal. The company has managed to slash its annual losses by 58%, bringing them down to ₹2,247 crore.

The Minister described this turnaround as a clear reflection of the Government’s commitment to strengthen public sector undertakings and position them at the heart of India’s telecom revolution.

TCIL also showed robust performance, with revenues rising by 17% in FY 2024-25 and profits more than doubling compared to the previous year. Similarly, ITI Limited posted revenues of ₹4,323 crore, registering over 100% growth and achieving a positive EBITDA for the fiscal year.

Scindia commended the achievements of all three PSUs, calling them pivotal for India’s digital connectivity drive. He urged them to continue investing in innovation, operational efficiency, and sustainable business practices while delivering superior services to citizens.

“The turnaround of BSNL and the strong growth of TCIL and ITI demonstrate the resilience of India’s telecom sector. With the Government’s continued support, we are confident of ensuring deeper connectivity and building a self-reliant, world-class telecom ecosystem,” the Minister stated.
