New Delhi : The BJP has sharply criticized the Congress party, challenging its leadership to expedite the legal resolution of corruption charges in the National Herald case, which involves senior party figures Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi. The BJP’s response comes after the Enforcement Directorate (ED) filed a chargesheet that further intensifies the corruption allegations surrounding Congress and its financial dealings with the National Herald, a newspaper linked to the party.
On Friday, the BJP ramped up its attack, accusing the Congress party of misusing public funds that were allegedly funneled into the National Herald, a publication that has been largely viewed as an arm of the Congress, both ideologically and financially. The BJP has repeatedly claimed that Congress-led state governments improperly diverted grants to support the publication, which has seen a decline in readership and influence in recent years.
The National Herald case, which revolves around allegations of financial misconduct dating back to the 2010s, has sparked significant political and legal controversy. The Enforcement Directorate’s chargesheet asserts that the Gandhi family and other Congress leaders used their influence to divert public money into the newspaper, making it a central point of contention between the BJP and Congress.
The BJP has seized the opportunity to challenge Congress leaders, particularly Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi, to clear their names by seeking a swift and transparent resolution in the courts. The ruling party has called on Congress to address the serious allegations head-on, accusing the opposition party of attempting to shield its leadership from accountability.
In response, the Congress has dismissed the BJP’s claims as politically motivated and part of a smear campaign against the party’s leadership. The opposition has repeatedly denied any wrongdoing, asserting that the charges are a result of a political vendetta orchestrated by the ruling BJP.
As the legal battle continues, the National Herald case remains a hot-button issue, with the BJP using it as a key tool to target the Congress party.
