Union Minister for Women and Child Development Annapurna Devi announced that the Gender Budget allocation for the welfare and empowerment of women in 2024-25 is 3.3 lakh crore rupees. During a media interaction in New Delhi, the Minister highlighted that this allocation represents a significant 37.3 percent increase from the previous financial year, 2023-24. She emphasized that this substantial rise in funding demonstrates the government’s strong commitment to women’s empowerment.
Minister Annapurna Devi elaborated on how the increased budget will support a wide range of initiatives aimed at improving the social, economic, and health conditions of women across the country. She explained that the additional funds will enhance programs for maternal health, nutrition, and childcare, ensuring better health outcomes for women and children. The budget will also boost educational initiatives, providing more scholarships and support for female literacy and higher education.
Furthermore, the Minister noted that economic empowerment is a key focus, with expanded schemes for skill development, entrepreneurship, and employment opportunities aimed at enabling women to achieve financial independence and contribute significantly to the economy. Safety and security measures for women will also be strengthened, with increased support for victims of domestic violence, sexual harassment, and trafficking.
In addition to these programs, the budget will broaden social welfare initiatives that offer financial assistance and support services to marginalized and vulnerable women. The legal and policy frameworks protecting women’s rights and promoting gender equality will be improved, ensuring a more inclusive and equitable society.
Minister Annapurna Devi highlighted that this budget allocation aligns with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of building a developed India. She stressed that the government’s strategy is shifting from merely focusing on women’s development to promoting women-led development. This approach aims to empower women to take on leadership roles and drive progress in various sectors, contributing to the nation’s overall growth and development.
