Secunderabad — Chief of Defence Staff (CDS) General Anil Chauhan has hailed the success of Operation Sindoor as a prime example of operational cohesion and strategic coordination among the Indian Army, Navy, and Air Force. Speaking at the College of Defence Management (CDM) in Secunderabad, the CDS addressed participants of the 21st Higher Defence Management Course (HDMC) and senior officers, sharing his strategic perspectives on Jointness and Integration in the Armed Forces.
In his address, General Chauhan stressed the importance of comprehensive capability development and self-reliance under the Aatmanirbhar Bharat vision. He underlined the need for a deep understanding of transformative changes in the military to effectively respond to the disruptive challenges posed by technology-driven modern warfare.

The CDS delivered a detailed talk on National Security Architecture and Higher Defence Management, explaining the evolution and current framework of India’s defence organisation. He highlighted the achievements of the Department of Military Affairs, the functioning of national security committees, and the ongoing reforms aimed at organisational restructuring. Special emphasis was laid on the roadmap for theatre commands, which are expected to significantly enhance India’s joint operational capabilities.
General Chauhan pointed out that sustained reforms, better coordination, and adaptability are essential to address evolving national security threats in an increasingly complex global environment.
As part of the efforts to advance joint logistics and integration, General Chauhan released the Joint Primer for Integrated Logistics, a comprehensive guide prepared by the CDM. He described logistics as the backbone of military operations, noting that integration across the three Services is crucial for achieving strategic objectives. The new primer focuses on digitisation, common provisioning and procurement, and alignment with the national logistics framework, with the aim of improving efficiency and enhancing organisational effectiveness.
In a move to promote sustainable practices, the CDS inaugurated the Smart Bike Public Bicycle Sharing Facility at CDM. Developed in collaboration with Smart Bike Mobility Pvt Ltd, the initiative will offer personnel convenient access to eco-friendly e-bicycles for daily commutes, reducing the institution’s carbon footprint while encouraging healthier lifestyles.
CDM Commandant, Major General Harsh Chhibber, presented an overview of recent initiatives designed to strengthen professional military education. The ongoing 44-week HDMC has 167 participants, including 12 officers from friendly foreign nations, reinforcing India’s commitment to regional cooperation and defence diplomacy.
As a premier Tri-Service institution, the CDM continues to play a pivotal role in shaping future strategic leadership, equipping senior officers with advanced management skills essential for higher command roles in the Armed Forces.
