New Delhi, 25 June: World-famous stippling artist Shailendra Khairnar recently paid a courtesy visit to Resident Commissioner and Secretary R. Vimla at Maharashtra Sadan. During the meeting, Khairnar presented her with an exquisite stippling portrait of hockey legend Dhyan Chand and his son.

A native of Dhule district, Shailendra Khairnar has gained global recognition over the past three decades through his mastery of stippling art. A graduate of Pune University, Khairnar has carved a unique niche for himself with sheer perseverance, dedication, and creativity, despite having no formal training.

Khairnar’s portfolio includes stunning stippling portraits of iconic figures such as Bharat Ratna Sachin Tendulkar, Sunil Gavaskar, Amitabh Bachchan, Lata Mangeshkar, Rajiv Gandhi, Sonia Gandhi, Mother Teresa, and international luminaries like Bill Clinton, Michael Jackson, Pelé, Maradona, and Zico. Many of these portraits have been personally handed over to the subjects themselves.

His artwork has been exhibited in over 13 countries, including India, the USA, England, Germany, France, Brazil, South Africa, Singapore, the United Arab Emirates, Spain, Scotland, Switzerland, Jamaica, and Trinidad and Tobago. In 2019, during the Cricket World Cup in England, his exhibition at the Nehru Centre in London was inaugurated by cricket legend Sunil Gavaskar.

Khairnar has been nominated twice for the prestigious Padma Shri award for his outstanding contributions, with nominations submitted by the Jalgaon district administration and the Maharashtra government.

Each of Khairnar’s creations reflects the concentration, patience, and skill required for stippling art. Completing a single portrait takes him a minimum of one to two days. Even in the digital age, he has breathed new life into this traditional art form.

Having traveled to eight countries, Khairnar remains grounded. This humble artist from Bhusawal continues to win hearts through his art, staying away from the limelight.
