New Delhi, May 22, 2025: Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Thakur Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu met Union Jal Shakti Minister Shri CR Patil in New Delhi on Wednesday to discuss key water resource issues, with a particular focus on the Kishau Hydro Electric Project and the Renuka Dam project.
During the meeting, the Chief Minister strongly advocated for the protection of Himachal Pradesh’s rights in the Kishau Hydro Electric Project. He emphasized the need for a favourable funding structure, proposing that the entire financial burden of the project should be borne either by the Government of India or by the major beneficiary states—Delhi, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, and Rajasthan.
The Chief Minister also raised concerns related to the Renuka Dam project. He highlighted the importance of fair compensation and support for the state by ensuring adequate provisions for the Local Area Development Fund and the free power component. “While hydroelectric projects are crucial for national progress, it is equally important to address the environmental and social implications, and compensate the affected states justly,” he added.
Additionally, Shri Sukhu urged the Union Minister for the early release of pending funds under the Jal Jeevan Mission to ensure timely implementation of water supply projects in the state.
Union Jal Shakti Minister Shri CR Patil assured the Chief Minister of the Centre’s full support and cooperation on all fronts. He acknowledged the importance of Himachal Pradesh’s concerns and stated that the ministry would work closely with the state to resolve pending issues.
The Chief Minister was accompanied by Chief Secretary Prabodh Saxena, Principal Advisor to the Chief Minister Ram Subhag Singh, Resident Commissioner Meera Mohanty, and Secretary to the Chief Minister Rakesh Kanwar.
