India and Pakistan trade gunfire for a second consecutive day as tensions continue to escalate

Srinagar, April 26,2025 – Amid rising tensions, Indian and Pakistani forces exchanged fire overnight across the Line of Control (LoC) in Kashmir, Army sources said on Saturday.

According to them, the firing with small arms was “initiated by Pakistan” and was “effectively retaliated” by Indian troops.
The Army reported that during the night of April 25-26, several Pakistani Army posts carried out unprovoked small arms firing across multiple points along the LoC in Kashmir.
“Indian forces gave a proportionate response with small arms,” they said, adding that no casualties were reported during the exchange.

This marks the second consecutive night that the Pakistan Army has opened fire at various locations along the LoC.
Defence officials said Pakistani troops have been engaging in small arms firing over the past two nights, likely fearing a possible Indian cross-border operation.

Meanwhile, the defence spokesperson based in Srinagar did not comment on the reported firing incidents.
The recent ceasefire violations come against the backdrop of mounting tensions between India and Pakistan following the deadly terrorist attack in Pahalgam on April 22, which resulted in the deaths of 25 tourists and one local resident.

In response to the attack, Army Chief General Upendra Dwivedi visited Srinagar on Friday to review the security situation in Jammu and Kashmir.
He was briefed by the commander of the Srinagar-based 15 Corps on the counter-terrorism operations undertaken post the Pahalgam attack, and the situation prevailing along the LoC.

General Dwivedi also called on Jammu and Kashmir’s Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha, who urged him to ensure swift action against those responsible for the Pahalgam incident and to intensify operations aimed at dismantling the terror infrastructure and its support network.
