Dhar: A 28-year-old man was found stabbed to death at his residence in Dhar earlier this week, with police later uncovering an alleged murder conspiracy involving his wife and her partner.
The victim, Dev Krishna Purohit, was killed at his home in Gondikheda Charan village, around 60 km from the district headquarters. Initially, his wife claimed that unidentified assailants had broken into the house, attacked her husband, and fled with valuables.
However, investigators soon grew suspicious due to inconsistencies in her statement.
According to Superintendent of Police Mayank Awasthi, further investigation revealed that the murder was allegedly pre-planned. The victim’s wife, Priyanka Purohit, was reportedly in a relationship with another man, Kamlesh Purohit, and the two are suspected to have conspired to eliminate the victim.
Police said the accused allegedly hired a contract killer for ₹1 lakh to carry out the attack.
Investigators relied on technical evidence, including mobile phone records, which established communication between the accused around the time of the incident. This played a crucial role in unraveling the case within 36 hours.
Following questioning, the woman allegedly confessed to her involvement, after which police arrested both her and her alleged partner. Authorities are continuing efforts to trace the suspected contract killer, who remains absconding.
Family members of the deceased claimed that the marriage had been troubled for a long time, citing frequent disputes between the couple.
