IndianOil Clarifies on LPG Delivery System; Reaffirms Robust and Transparent Processes

Delhi, 13 April 2026: IndianOil categorically clarifies that the LPG distribution ecosystem in India is robust, transparent, and technology-driven, with multiple safeguards in place to ensure delivery exclusively to genuine domestic consumers.

In response to recent media reports alleging systemic irregularities in LPG cylinder deliveries, IndianOil wishes to state the following:

No Systemic ‘Ghost Delivery’ Issue

Allegations of so-called ‘ghost deliveries’ are not systemic in nature. While a few isolated complaints regarding delivery discrepancies have been reported, these instances are sporadic and not indicative of any systemic failure. The LPG distribution network continues to efficiently serve lakhs of households daily across the country.

Any instance where a delivery is marked without actual receipt by the consumer is treated as a serious violation. Such cases are promptly investigated, and where lapses are established, strict disciplinary action is taken.

Strong Authentication Mechanism (DAC/OTP-Based Delivery)

IndianOil has implemented a robust Delivery Authentication Code (DAC) system to ensure that LPG cylinders are delivered only after verified customer confirmation:

  • A strengthened 6-digit DAC has been introduced to further enhance security and prevent misuse.
  • The DAC system has been widely implemented across the distribution network.
  • Compliance levels across the network remain consistently high, and any deviation is treated with utmost seriousness.
  1. End-to-End Digital Tracking

IndianOil maintains comprehensive digital tracking of LPG cylinders from bottling plants to final delivery, significantly minimising the possibility of diversion or unauthorised handling.

  1. System-Level Safeguards Strengthened
  • Delivery confirmation APIs (Application Programming Interface) have been further secured by restricting retry attempts, reducing the scope for misuse.
  • Suspicious activities identified through Security Operations Center (SOC) monitoring have been proactively blacklisted by the IndianOil Security Team.

  1. Vigilance & Enforcement Measures
  • IndianOil undertakes regular surprise inspections, audits, and coordination with local authorities to curb malpractices, including diversion of cylinders for commercial usage.
  • Multiple enforcement drives across states have led to seizure of illegally diverted cylinders and penal action against offenders.

  1. 6. Consumer Advisory

Consumers are advised to:

  • Share the DAC/OTP only upon actual physical receipt of the LPG cylinder.
  • Use only authorised booking channels to ensure transparency and traceability.
  • Report any grievances through official helplines or distributor channels for prompt resolution.

IndianOil remains fully committed to ensuring a safe, reliable, and transparent LPG supply to all consumers across the country. Robust systems, continuous monitoring, and strict enforcement mechanisms are firmly in place to safeguard consumer interests. We urge all stakeholders to rely on official communications and verified information before drawing conclusions.
