Delhi, September 10– The seventh edition of the widely acclaimed book “Challenges to Internal Security of India”, authored by former DGP of Uttarakhand and present Vice Chancellor of the Sports University of Haryana, Rai, Sonipat, Ashok Kumar, was successfully released today at Hansraj College, University of Delhi.
The book launch ceremony was graced by the Union Minister for Power and Urban Development, Manohar Lal, as the Chief Guest. In his address, he underlined the book’s relevance to national interest and emphasized that India’s internal security is influenced by multiple dimensions. He stated:

“This book will serve as a guiding resource for students, aspirants of civil services, and policymakers alike. Internal security is not just confined to India—it has both national and international significance. Common citizens must also develop awareness, because without their vigilance, the government alone cannot effectively tackle grave issues like terrorism, left-wing extremism, drug trafficking, and illegal infiltration. Our government has significantly curbed challenges in Kashmir, Naxalism, and insurgency in the North-East. Even the Prime Minister Narendra Modi, from the Red Fort, has underlined illegal infiltration as a matter of national concern. This proves that internal security is not merely an administrative challenge, but a question tied to India’s security and development.”

Manohar Lal further urged the youth to shoulder responsibility in this regard:
“The vision of a developed India rests upon the shoulders of our young generation. I appeal to students not to treat this book merely as an exam resource, but as an eye-opener on national security issues. It should inspire them to broaden their outlook, embrace discipline, and act responsibly as future nation-builders.”
On this occasion, the Minister also paid floral tributes to the statues of Swami Dayanand Saraswati and Mahatma Hansraj.
Speaking about his book, author Ashok Kumar shared:
“This work addresses critical issues like Kashmir, Naxalism, and terrorism, while reinforcing a fundamental truth—that national security cannot be left solely to the police or armed forces. The book has consistently ranked as the No. 1 choice among UPSC aspirants and has generated extensive discussion across academic and professional circles. With each edition, we have endeavored to add fresh insights and practical relevance. This seventh and latest edition is particularly significant as it connects core issues directly with contemporary developments.”
Special Guest Devesh Chandra Srivastava, Special Commissioner of Police (Crime), Delhi Police, also shared his perspectives, drawing from rich field experience to highlight the evolving nature of security challenges.
The event was attended by several distinguished personalities, including Lalit Singh, Managing Director of McGraw Hill India; Prof. (Dr.) Rama, Principal, Hansraj College; former DGP Haryana Manoj Yadav; former IPS officer of RPF Uttarakhand S.K. Bhagat; former DG, Namami Gange, G. Ashok; former IG BSF S.P.
