Aarohan: ‘Dweep to Delhi’ National Integration Tour Brings Andaman & Nicobar Students to Delhi for Independence Day Celebrations

First-of-its-kind initiative connects island youth with mainland heritage and modern India

New Delhi — In a first-of-its-kind initiative to foster national integration, the Andaman and Nicobar Command has organised a seven-day educational and cultural tour — ‘Aarohan: Dweep to Delhi’ — for 30 meritorious higher secondary students from tribal backgrounds across the islands.

The students, selected by the Directorate of Education from all three districts — North Andaman (Diglipur, Mayabunder, Baratang), South Andaman (Sri Vijayapuram), and the Nicobar group (Car Nicobar, Kamorta, Campbell Bay) — include an equal number of boys and girls. Many of them hail from remote areas and are experiencing air, train, and metro travel for the first time. Their journey to the National Capital Region (NCR) began on 12 August, with air tickets sponsored by Narsi and Associates and kits provided by NMDC.

The itinerary includes visits to iconic monuments such as the Red Fort, India Gate, National War Memorial, Jantar Mantar, Qutub Minar, Taj Mahal, and Agra Fort, as well as exposure to modern urban spaces like Ambience Mall, Dilli Haat, and Connaught Place. Students will also travel via the Delhi–Agra Expressway and visit the New Delhi Railway Station, highlighting key infrastructure under the PM GatiShakti initiative.

A major highlight of the trip is witnessing the Prime Minister’s Independence Day address from the historic Red Fort — a moment organisers say will leave a “lasting imprint” on the young participants.

Students attended classes at Army Public School, Dhaula Kuan, and are scheduled to visit Delhi Technological University (DTU) and the National Science Centre to explore higher education opportunities.

The delegation met President Droupadi Murmu at Rashtrapati Bhavan, followed by an interaction with Raksha Mantri Ji at South Block on 14 August. During the meeting, the Defence Minister emphasised the importance of human values in building character and urged the students to contribute towards making India a stronger nation. He commended the Andaman and Nicobar Command for the initiative, extended best wishes for their future, and offered sweets to the group. The students presented a handcrafted tribal souvenir to the Minister as a token of gratitude.

Organisers hope this “transformative journey” will broaden the horizons of the students, deepen their connection to the nation, and inspire them to become ambassadors of unity and progress.
