Faridabad Hosts District-Level ‘Khyal Apne Buzoorgon Ka’ Programme Celebrating Senior Citizens

-Spearheaded by Daksh Foundation, the 9th edition (Second Phase) of the initiative dedicated to senior citizens was grandly organised at Delhi Scholars International School campus

Faridabad: The district-level programme under the social initiative “Khyal Apne Buzoorgon Ka”, spearheaded by Daksh Foundation, was grandly organised at the Delhi Scholars International School campus, marking the 9th edition (Second Phase) of the initiative dedicated to senior citizens. The event saw enthusiastic participation of 380 students from nearly 28 schools across Faridabad, accompanied by their grandparents, with around 450 senior citizens in attendance.

Five creative, value-based competitions involving children and elders highlighted emotional bonding and intergenerational harmony. Vipul Goel, Revenue Minister, Government of Haryana, and Rajesh Nagar, Minister of State, Government of Haryana, were the Chief Guests, while International poet Dinesh Raghuvanshi and T.S. Dalal, Chairman, Delhi Scholars International School, attended as Special Guests.

Several eminent personalities were also present, including Vijender Saroj (Secretary, Red Cross Faridabad), H. S. Malik, Brigadier N. N. Mathur, Colonel A. K. Kaplas, Wing Commander Harish Chandra Man, Narendra Parmar, Dr. Ajay Garg, Rajdeep, Suresh Chandra, Avtar Kumar Goud, Vijay Laxmi, Lt Col Sunil Dhandhar, Dr. Bijender, Rakesh Kashyap, and representatives of Yatharth Hospital including Dr. A. K. Jha, Dr. Vijay Kumar Aggarwal, Siddharth Sharma and Rajiv Sharma. The programme commenced with the lighting of the ceremonial lamp by the Chief Guests.

Prayas Dalal, Director of the School, welcomed the gathering, honoured the dignitaries with saplings, and addressed the audience. Vipul Goel described senior citizens as the heritage of society and stressed the importance of such initiatives for ensuring their dignity and safety, assuring continued government support. Rajesh Nagar highlighted the need for stronger sensitivity and communication between generations, noting the initiative’s positive social impact.

The event also included free health check-ups for senior citizens conducted by Yatharth Hospital, while the Red Cross team registered needy elders and provided physiotherapy services. Participants were informed about legal rights of senior citizens and children, along with practical measures to prevent cybercrime. Brigadier N. N. Mathur elaborated on the objectives of the initiative, Wing Commander H. C. Man explained provisions of the Juvenile Justice Act, and Dr. Ajay Garg outlined the Maintenance and Welfare of Parents and Senior Citizens Act, focusing on financial security for elders. S. S. Dahiya, Founder–Convener of Daksh Foundation, addressed cyber safety, urging senior citizens to remain vigilant against online fraud. Winners across the five competition categories were awarded cash prizes, presented by the Chief Guests and dignitaries. In the Colouring Competition for Nursery to Class II, Tansi secured first place, followed by Aryahi Singh in second and Pariza Khan in third.

The Drawing Competition for Classes III to V saw Arihan Dubey as the winner, with Yashika Jain second and Devansh Garg third. In the Slogan Writing Competition for Classes VI–VII, Drishti Sharma claimed first place, Anukriti Gupta second, and Shreshtha Goswami third.

The Poster Making Competition for Classes IX–X was topped by Mannat, with Parnika and Kanika Kumari in second and third places respectively. Finally, in the Letter Writing Competition for Classes XI–XII, Pranjal Bharti secured first place, followed by Bhumika and Jeenal Singh.

The programme concluded with a vote of thanks by Colonel A. K. Kaplas, who expressed gratitude to all partner organisations, guests, parents, students, and the school staff for their valuable support. In conclusion, the district-level programme “Khyal Apne Buzoorgon Ka” delivered a powerful message: caring for senior citizens is not merely a responsibility, but a shared social value rooted in respect, safety, and love integrating elders into the mainstream of society with dignity.
