New Delhi, September 15, 2025 — Delhi Police have arrested Gagan Preet Makkad in connection with a high-speed BMW crash on Ring Road that killed senior Finance Ministry officer Navjot Singh, 56, and left his wife, Sandeep Kaur, 54, with multiple fractures and head injuries.

The couple was returning home on Sunday when their motorcycle was struck near the Delhi Cantonment Metro station. Investigators said the BMW, allegedly driven at excessive speed, attempted to overtake a bus, hit the divider, and overturned after colliding with the bike. Makkad, her husband Parikshit, and their two children, who were inside the car, were also injured.

Police have charged Makkad with culpable homicide not amounting to murder, rash driving, obstruction of evidence, and endangering life. According to the First Information Report, Kaur told officers that after the collision she repeatedly begged the woman to take them to the nearest hospital, but instead they were transported to a smaller private facility far away. Kaur alleged her husband might have survived if he had received immediate treatment and claimed the hospital had links to the accused’s family.

Deputy Commissioner of Police Amit Goel confirmed that Makkad was arrested after being discharged from medical care and said further legal proceedings are underway. The case has sparked public concern about reckless driving and delays in providing timely medical assistance to accident victims.
