‘Zombie Drug’ Rumours Debunked: Bangalore City Police Reveal Truth

Police clarify viral video, say medical condition—not drugs—caused unusual behaviour

Bengaluru: Bangalore City Police has dismissed viral claims about the presence of a so-called “zombie drug” in the city, clarifying that the incident involving a man standing motionless was due to medical reasons, not substance abuse.

The rumours began after a video circulated on social media showing a man standing still for an unusually long time, prompting speculation that he was under the influence of a dangerous drug.

Acting swiftly, officers traced the individual near Nitte Meenakshi Institute of Technology in Yelahanka and took him for a medical examination.

According to Bangalore City Police, the reports confirmed that no narcotic or psychotropic substances were found in his system.

Authorities stated that the man was suffering from arthritis and had taken prescribed medication along with alcohol, which led to the disoriented state captured in the viral video.

Further inquiry revealed that he had recently come to Bengaluru in search of work and had been living in the city for the past few months.

Bangalore City Police urged social media users to act responsibly and avoid sharing unverified information that can create panic and harm reputations.

The department warned that strict action could be taken against those spreading false rumours and reiterated its commitment to tackling drug abuse.

Police also issued a strong advisory, asking citizens to verify facts before sharing content online and to report suspicious activities directly to authorities instead of amplifying misinformation.
