The Impressive TimesMumbai, July 4: The much-anticipated romantic drama Metro… In Dino, featuring Sara Ali Khan and Aditya Roy Kapur in lead roles, had a lukewarm start at the box office on its opening day. According to early estimates, the film managed to earn approximately ₹3 crore on Day 1 across India, making for a modest debut despite the buzz around its ensemble cast and soulful soundtrack.
Directed by acclaimed filmmaker Anurag Basu, Metro… In Dino is a spiritual successor to the 2007 hit Life in a… Metro. The film brings together multiple parallel love stories set against the backdrop of urban life, aiming to resonate with the millennial and Gen Z audience.
However, the film’s opening collection falls short when compared to Sara Ali Khan’s earlier releases. Her debut film Kedarnath (2018), which also marked her entry into Bollywood, earned around ₹7.25 crore on its first day — more than double the collection of Metro… In Dino.
Trade analysts believe that despite the film’s promising music and star-studded cast, its niche narrative and lack of mass appeal may have affected its initial footfall. Weekend collections and word-of-mouth will now play a crucial role in determining the film’s box office trajectory.
Star Cast: Alongside Sara and Aditya, the film also features Anupam Kher, Neena Gupta, Pankaj Tripathi, Konkona Sen Sharma, Ali Fazal, and Fatima Sana Shaikh.
