Delhi CM Rekha Gupta Attends IGDTUW 8th Convocation, Calls Women ‘Architects of Tomorrow’

New Delhi, Mar 12: Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta on Thursday attended the 8th convocation ceremony of Indira Gandhi Delhi Technical University for Women  (IGDTUW), congratulating the graduating students and encouraging them to use their knowledge and skills to contribute to society and the nation.

Addressing the gathering, the Chief Minister said a convocation marks not the end of academic life but the beginning of a new journey. She urged the students to move forward with curiosity, innovation and a sense of responsibility, adding that their education would enable them to bring meaningful change to society.

Calling the graduating students the “architects of tomorrow,” Gupta said they were not merely receiving degrees but stepping into the world as future leaders who would shape the nation through technology, research and innovation. She noted that their achievements reflected years of dedication and hard work.

The Chief Minister said India has made significant progress in empowering women, adding that the country is now moving beyond the idea of “Beti Bachao” and “Beti Padhao” toward a stronger vision of “Beti Badhao.” She encouraged the students to continue striving for excellence while balancing their roles in career, family and nation-building.

Highlighting the concept of women-led development, Gupta said women today are emerging as leaders across sectors and are playing an increasingly important role in shaping the country’s future. She added that courage and determination are not defined by gender and women have made remarkable contributions in every field.

The Chief Minister also emphasised that technical education has the power to transform lives and strengthen the nation’s progress. Institutions like IGDTUW, she said, are nurturing the next generation of women engineers, scientists, entrepreneurs and innovators.

Delhi’s Education Minister Ashish Sood,who was also present at the ceremony, said women’s participation in national development is one of the country’s greatest strengths during the period of Amrit Kaal. He noted that young women today are emerging as innovators and leaders who will shape the future of the nation.

Sood said the graduating students were not only leaving the university with degrees but also with a responsibility to contribute positively to society. He expressed confidence that their talent and determination would play a vital role in building a developed India.

The ceremony witnessed the awarding of 1,181 degrees to students across various programmes, including 938 undergraduate, 212 postgraduate and 31 doctoral degrees.

In recognition of academic excellence, the university also presented two Chancellor’s Medals, 15 Vice-Chancellor’s Medals and 26 additional awards to outstanding students during the convocation.
