New Delhi, March 12: Indian Railways is modernizing its freight logistics by integrating first-mile pick-up, mid-mile transportation, and last-mile delivery for parcels. The South Central Railway has launched the pilot phase of its app-based ‘Rail Parcel’ platform across 17 stations in seven major cities, including Hyderabad, Visakhapatnam, Vijayawada, Guntur, Rajahmundry, Bengaluru, and Chennai, making parcel handling more efficient and transparent.
The Joint Parcel Product – Rapid Cargo Service (JPP-RCS) has become operational with seven pairs of scheduled services, generating approximately ₹56 crore in revenue for the current fiscal year up to February. This initiative ensures faster movement of goods while improving scheduling reliability across key freight routes.
Over the last three years, the Indian Railways has allocated ₹14,500 crore to upgrade facilities and customer amenities at goods and parcel terminals nationwide. In addition, CONCOR is providing door-to-door parcel services on the Delhi–Kolkata and Mumbai–Kolkata corridors, further strengthening first- and last-mile connectivity and offering end-to-end logistics solutions for businesses and individual customers alike.
