Cyber fraud of Rs.95,000 on pretext of credit card activation, caller arrested in Faridabad

Faridabad: A resident of Bharat Colony, Faridabad, became a victim of cyber fraud after receiving a call from a man who introduced himself as a Kotak Mahindra Bank employee.
The caller told him that his credit card needed activation and sent a link to download an application. Soon after the victim downloaded the app, Rs.95,000 was fraudulently deducted from his credit card. Based on his complaint, a case was registered at Cyber Police Station Central under relevant sections. According to the police spokesperson, the Cyber Police team arrested Akhil Tanwar (30), a resident of Jai Vihar Phase-1, Delhi, in connection with the case.
During interrogation, it was revealed that Akhil had made the fraudulent call and sent the fake application link to the complainant. The accused, a BBA graduate, runs a garment stitching workshop in Gurugram. He was produced in court, remanded to three days of police custody, and later sent to jail.
